Pink Palace – Scotland

Who wants to stay here? We called it the Pink Palace, but the actual name is Roman Camp Hotel, because the hotel sits on a spot where there was a Roman camp back when the Romans conquered Britain. This spot (Callander, near Stirling, in Scotland) is as far north as the Romans got.

The hotel sits in lovely gardens on the bank of the river, complete with outdoor seating (for tea) and a family of peacocks.

But it’s the inside of the hotel that’s unusually special, with public rooms evoking country house weekends. Fires blaze warmly in many of these rooms, including the entryway, the dining room, the drawing room, and the library.

Here are some samples:

Drawing room, where we had champagne after dinner

Library-check out the floorboards

Bar – complete with grand piano

Conservatory – a partial view

Last, but not least, our room had a private garden. I loved this hotel!
